what is the diffenence in the way Sunpower and first solar make Solar Panels? which is better?

Sunpower is a conventional crystalline silicon cell, except with contacts all on the back. These are the most efficient cells widely available commercially. However, Sunpower panels are generally more expensive per watt than other silicon panels.

First Solar is a Cadmium Telluride thin film, theoretically, a lower cost per watt. Per unit area, it’s less efficient than any crystalline silicon panel. The general public cannot buy their product.

Neither of these companies is making very much money, and with current economic conditions, I would not be surprised to see losses for both. First Solar has the distinction of being low cost, and having an actual product – something that all the thin-film startups do not.

I don’t find the price of either company’s stock attractive at present, if that’s what you’re looking for.
