Is Charcoal a fossil fuel, or okay for the environment?

I am planning a camping trip and it is go green. We want to create a solar oven and it only works if there is charcoal burned. Would it be go green?

Charcoal is not a fossil fuel, it is made from wood that has been partially burned in a kiln. The process produces a lot of very unpleasant smoke and fumes which are bad for the environment. It is also not very good for the environment as it is not an efficient way of burning wood.
I do not understand what you mean by a “solar oven” which uses charcoal. A solar oven uses sunlight concentrated with a spherical mirror and no other fuel at all. All you are doing is making a barbecue.
