How do I take care of my outdoor solar lighting?
Basically, you need to just make sure they are in the sun; if you have ones with adjustable Solar Lights, there is an article that tells you how to move them throughout the year. For example, if your panels are adjustable, the should be positioned at different angles during the winter and summer than the spring and fall.
Once a year, you should inspect the lights to make sure they are not cracked (which could let moisture in). If there are any cracks but no moisture is evident and the fixtures work, use some clear caulking on the crack. During spring and fall, make sure that leaves and wind-swept debris are off of the fixture. Periodically through the year, clean the Solar Panels with a damp cloth (water and ammonia or water and vinegar work); and once a year, clean all of the housing. If you have stained steel or copper coated fixtures, it is a good idea to put a small amount of mineral oil on them to protect the finish (pour a small amount on a cloth) and be careful to avoid the solar panel, glass/plastic, and anything related to the fixture’s mechanics.
Here is a page of articles that talk about taking care of them, particularly spring maintenance tips, and a page on “Solar Light Tips & Info.”
