Does Gas have a future?

I am looking at replacing my old boiler / warm air heating system. The prices I am getting quoted are £6000 + which I think is truly crazy for a two bedroom flat. Everyone keeps blaming all the new regulations and red tape. I don’t know but there is no way I want to pay that kind of money.

However, it occurs to me that maybe Gas has a limited future anyway because its all now imported. While we do have the possibility of producing cheap electricity from Nuclear, we are stuck with gas imports and high prices.

I am thinking that it maybe a better investment to go 100% electric for hot water and heating. Cheaper equipment and installation, no stupid regulations, safer and may prove cheaper to run in the long term.

Any thoughts?

A gas boiler these days only has a life span of 10 to 15 years.Natural gas will still be around in the next couple of decades.
Electric heating does have a lot of regulations and the gas ones are there to ensure safety also.
If you want cheap heating and water invest your money in renewables.Ground source heat pumps, air pumps, solar etc.
