Solar Panels?

My wife and l are currently building a house in the Leyte area and have though of insulting solar panels as an alternative power source.
Does anyone know where we can get information about installing solar panels on a house in the Philippines? Is their a government grant or initiative for using Solar Power for domestic use? Does anyone know of costs of panels?
Any information regarding the use solar panels for domestic use within the Philippines will be grateful.

Solar panels are a good alternative, but must be part of a designed system: you have chosen a good time to ask as you are at the right stage. Adding panels later is always more expensive and disruptive.
It is wise to have an alternative, or backup system: here in England I have a wood-burning stove, and if the power is down I can cook on this and it provides warmth. My supplies are sustainable wood.

You can get infomration simply by going onto the internet and typiong “solar power” and “solar panels”.
Be wary of exaggerated claims. Do not accept the first offer you get: do your research.

Remember to get estimates of cost from three or four reputable companies, including installers. Ask then to put you in contact with customers at your level of cost and location/house type.

Try to find a range of people who have had panels installed or added. Get an heating enginer to verify the outputs.

Ask a government offices about grants, and you could also try agencies and eco groups for information about help and technical issues.

Solar is not a cheap alternative, due to the fact that you are a pioneer. You might want to ask friends if they will join you to bring the cost of shipping or installation down. Try it as a community enterprise.

Look out for recent developments in technology, which means that panels in the next year or two will be lighter, easier to install and, because some will be vaccum-free, much cheaper.

The UK cost per panels is about $3000, but you must also calculate wiring and storage costs – after all you may have to store power. In the UK, any excess power can be sold back to the National Grid. You could try a contract with your local supplier.

Your governement or local authority will take an interest in your initative and may help with some of the costs or research. You could also ask a local university or technical college for assistance

My comments are pretty universal to most “developed” countries.
